Fifty-five islands, nineteen countries, seventeen thousand miles, and one amazing adventure.
This book is the story of Graham and Janet Morse´s voyage across the Pacific to New Zealand. It focuses mainly on the S. Pacific Islands that the Morses visited on their crewed 78 foot yacht “Moonraker”, their experiences, encounters and impressions.
Underlying the interesting narrative is Graham´s personal feelings about making such a voyage following recovery from a serious illness, and puts into perspective the reality for many of “escaping to sea”.
Graham nicely enhances each island visited with historical background, particularly if related to his boyhood heroes: Captain Cook, Thor Heyerdahl, Christian Fletcher and Robert Louis Stevenson and describes vividly the people they share experiences with along the way, both locals and other cruisers.
For those who have done a Pacific crossing, this will be a pleasant trip down memory lane. For those planning a voyage it gives an insight into what to expect and islands you possibly should not miss. Those wanting a glimpse of the S. Pacific from their armchairs will find this an enjoyable read.
