We hauled our boat at Port Vila Boat Yard and the first thing that we noticed was the willingness of the boys to help. We were very comfortable from day one, the boys were in the water making sure everything went well to get us into the cradle and then they were always in the yard offering to help.
Justin had everything that we needed either in stock or very local and he was very helpful. When we needed any specialist help, Justin was able to put us in contact with qualified and reliable local people.
Martie (the accounts lady) was super friendly, and they offer free wifi, showers and toilets. There is a security guard on duty all night and all weekend.
You can live aboard, or do what we did and find a local apartment and catch the bus for 1.50 from town. Very easy.
We repainted our hull, re-antifouled, replaced our sign writing and were very happy with our end result. If you are looking for somewhere that is flexible, where you can do the work, or they can do it for you, or they can help you – then Port Vila Boat Yard is a good choice. You can even leave your boat on the hard for the cyclone season.
The Port Vila Yacht Club is on the beach in front of the boatyard and is a good place to have a drink or a meal on a Friday night or Sunday. We even swam from the beach after a hot day working on the boat.
If you need further information, they have a Facebook page, website https://portvilaboatyard.com/ or you can contact Justin Jenkin at the Port Vila Boat Yard – phone +678 7719174, email – portvilaboatyard@vanuatu.com.vu
We thought we should put up this info as we had difficulty finding anything on Noonsite about facilities in Port Vila, also our friends needed to use the Boatyard a few months after us, and they too found nothing on Noonsite.
We have used a number of Boatyards in Australia and Asia but found Port Vila to be one of the more relaxing facilities. Overall it was a great experience.
