USA: Seattle to San Francisco
Published 15 years ago, updated 5 years ago
I am planning to sail from Seattle to San Francisco sometime in 2010. In (Jimmy Cornell’s book) “World Routes”, it says a passage can be made between May and October.
Since I will be single-handing when would be the best time to make the passage. I would like to go as soon as it can be done safely.
Thanks

There is very little I could add to what I say in my World Cruising Routes about sailing from Seattle to San Francisco.
The height of summer is undoubtedly the better time to do is as the weather tends to be more settled. As you will be single-handing I suggest you keep well offshore and only close with the coast as you approach your destination.
The other alternative is to cover the distance in shorter legs but as you will be sailing on your own that may end up even more difficult than biting the bullet and doing it all in one go.
Good luck!
