The Norwegian Cruising Guide 2009 Edition Now Available

Published 14 years ago, updated 6 years ago

Twice the content of the typical cruising guide for half the price.

The Norwegian Cruising Guide, 2009 eBook Edition, by Phyllis Nickel and John Harries, published by Attainable Adventure Cruising Ltd, is now available for purchase and download at www.norwegiancruisingguide.com. Once downloaded the eBook does not require Internet access.

The 2009 Edition is based on two previous editions by John Armitage and Mark Brackenbury and two subsequent editions by the present authors, drawing on a wealth of cruising experience on the Norwegian coast spanning more than 30 years.

The “General Cruising Information” section is a product of the authors’ 18 years and 100,000 miles of high latitude sailing experience. It includes information on how to prepare a boat for a cruise to Norway, how to get there and what to expect while cruising Norway. In addition, there is a chapter devoted to the special challenges of cruising Svalbard (Spitsbergen).

The “Harbours and Anchorages” section has continued to grow and now describes 850 ports and anchorages including the west coast of Sweden, the entire coast of Norway, and north to Svalbard; with information on approaches, where to anchor/tie up, marine services, and shore-based activities and services.

The Norwegian Cruising Guide is the most comprehensive and up-to-date English-language guide to this area due to the ongoing contributions of Hans Jakob Valderhaug and Eli Husum—the Guide’s Norwegian Correspondents, whose 30 years of Norwegian coastal cruising experience gives the Guide a special local flavour and depth—and the numerous other contributors who have shared their experiences cruising this wonderful country.

The 2009 Edition has been completely redesigned and is presently published only as an eBook; an approach that has several benefits:

– The price for the eBook, which contains over 650 letter-size pages, 400 full-colour pictures and numerous colour graphics, including planning maps for each chapter, is (still) just €20 (US$26).

– The eBook is right up-to-date with information collected in 2008.

– The ‘Table of Contents’ is available at all times in a sidebar and, together with the ‘Index’, is interactive. Just click on an entry and you will be transported directly there.

Since not all cruisers have access to a computer while underway, the entire Guide is printable and formatted to fit into a three ring binder.

To help those new to downloading and using eBooks, the Guide and associated website include a ‘Using This Book’ chapter and a step by step set of “Detailed Download Instructions”.

As a special bonus, a waypoint file of all the ports and anchorages covered by the Norwegian Cruising Guide is available for download into chart plotters and navigation software.
