(December 17, 2013) – A few pointers about the island of Roatan from SY Mary Ann.

Published 7 years ago, updated 6 years ago

After our 6 months in Rio Dulce, we are now in Roatan, Honduras (Bay Islands).

Clearing was easy, at a cost of 5 USD/person.

A few pointers on the island:

We are staying at Fantasy Island marina, alongside a very good dock (some boats are Med-moored, some

alongside). The place is fairly clean and is just completing 2 new bathroom/showers. Jerry, the dock-master, is extremely helpful, will guide you in upon request, and organizes quite a dense social scene (happy hours, jam sessions, etc…).

Cost is 9 $/foot/month if one stays more than 14 days, which includes water (somewhat salty), and the use of all resort facilities (good pool, very nice beach and restaurant, all within 100 meters from the reef).

The marina distributes free of charge a very complete guide of services available on the island.

Provisioning is OK but requires a trip to French Harbor town, about 10 minutes by car (the marina arranges for a bus on a regular basis).

Technical stuff can be found at 3 different hardware stores, one of which (Parker’s) has a limited stock of boating equipment. Prices are not very much different from most locations (US prices + freight).

Decent diving all around the island, and in particular just outside the reef in front of the marina.
