The book is a pocket guide …. physically small and easily justifies taking space at the chart table. It works on two levels- as a straight read, it makes a complex subject much easier to understand and will help the yachtsman make better (read safer) decisions. The detail and indexing also make the book a very useful reference book.

I was more than a little surprised at the structure of the learning experience as it is very different than the normal books that presuppose a good first in physics or a desire to sail to far off places.

If your interest is cruising a small yacht in the UK or Europe I don’t think there is anything better and frankly, at this price, it really is essential reading. My only minor criticism is that it would be nice to have a second volume for sailors who perhaps plan to sail much further.

Bloomsbury Publishing Review

Weather determines when we sail, where we sail to – and whether we arrive safely. Understanding how current and forthcoming weather will affect our sailing requires keen powers of observation, common sense and experience. Reeds Weather Handbook an essential pocket-sized guide contains all the necessary tools to predict the weather for both coastal day sailing and longer passages offshore.

With a practical, no-nonsense approach, and packed full of clear diagrams and illustrative photographs, this is the ideal aide-memoire for all leisure sailors, including those at RYA Day Skipper and Yachtmaster level.

Frank Singleton is a former Senior Forecaster for the Met Office and an RYA Yachtmaster with well over 40,000 sea miles under his keel. His weather website is well-known globally to leisure and professional sailors alike. He has received awards from the Royal Meteorological Society, the RYA, the Royal Cruising Club, the Cruising Association and the Hallberg-Rassy Owners Association.
