Papua New Guinea to Bali, Indonesia

Published 16 years ago, updated 5 years ago

I have bought your book and would like to know a little more about crossing from PNG to Indonesia. I would prefer to go through Jayapura – Sorong and then down through the Maluku islands to Bali, however, I will need to depart around March. Do you think this is possible. I need to be back in the UK at the end of May. Any info you have or advice on my proposed route would be greatly appreciated, I looked at going the other way through the Torres strait but again the seasons don’t really cooperate.

Sailing around the north of PNG is ok and as there is no danger of cyclones it can be done at practically any time of the year. Rather than worry about the weather, you should try to avoid any areas in Indonesia where there may unrest.
