On the morning of Wednesday, 30 June 2010, at 3:00 am, cruising yacht “Altares” was attacked at sea near Bajo Pipón, about 15 to 20 minutes from the Port of Pedregal, in the province of Chiriquí, Panama.
American yacht skipper – father, Bo Olsen – was tragically killed. His son, Zachary Ksaer Olsen, had been shot in the side and a young woman, the third crew member whose name has not been released, had been severely beaten in the face.
The first report of the incident was when the yacht pulled into the Port of Pedregal later the same morning. The 2 injured crew members were rushed to the Emergency Room of the Rafael Hernández regional hospital in David, where Zach underwent surgery.
Zach and his fatter lived aboard “Altares” and had recently moved their anchorage from Pedregal to Bajo Pipon.
Later press reports indicate that the skipper who was killed was a known Salvage Diver and Treasure Hunter who probably had a large number of valuables on board, which makes one believe that it was not a random case.
