New Regulations Regarding Pets in New Caledonia
Published 13 years ago, updated 6 years ago
Just a small update to clarify the regulations in New Caledonia for importing your dog/pet. As of July 15, 2011, when we were there, all pets must complete a 10-day quarantine onboard.
The way it works is first you contact Biosecurity. They will come to your boat and check your pet out. You can do this at the same time as you contact a local vet who must then certify their visits as the first and last day of the quarantine.
In between, the regulations say the boat must stay in the bay of Noumea. However, in our case, the officer had no problem allowing us to anchor outside the bay during the quarantine period.
You might want to contact the vet in advance so you make sure every day in Noumea counts towards your 10-day quarantine.
I contacted several vets. Here are some numbers.
Dr. Maron (687) 430-809
Dr. Legoux (687) 274 517
They charged about FPX 7,000 per visit ($80).
Once cleared-in, New Caledonia is very pet-friendly.
Our thanks to Veronique Bardach for this update.
