More Thoughts on Vancouver to San Francisco

I was just reading on your site, the Report on Vancouver to San Francisco in September where you state:
“Late August or early September is still ok to head south”
We were planning on transiting Seattle to San Francisco in mid-October. I saw in your book, we should be ok through October, but now I am having doubts because you specified on the message board item “early September”.
We are pretty experienced offshore cruisers but are not fans of beating or proving our prowess against vicious storms (although following seas with 25-30 knots is still fine)… keeping that in mind, what do you think of a mid-October passage (we are on a 50 f50-foot worthy sail catamaran)?
Thank you for your thoughts. I am sure you get a million of these a day, Irene

Irene,
You are right, the voyage would be safer if you could do it earlier, i.e. early September. Regardless of when you head south, do keep well offshore and I am sure you will be ok. One thing NOT to do is run for shelter in a gale into any of the ports N of San Francisco.
Bon voyage.
