Mexico to the Marquesas via powerboat
Published 17 years ago, updated 5 years ago
I will be crossing from the west coast of Mexico to the Marquesas in about a year. Powerboats prefer very light winds and a somewhat different route strategy than sailboats. What would be the best route for a powerboat from Mexico to the Marquesas?
The route depends on the time of year, and also existing weather conditions at that time. So it is impossible to advise you except to point out that the two general options are:
- Take a direct route to the Marquesas
- Take direct route to Galapagos, fill up with fuel, then continue west, by staying just south of the equator where winds are lighter. Only set course for the port of arrival close to the islands as south of 4°S you will have stronger SE winds.
Your best bet is to get a professional forecaster to advise you nearer the time.
