Please find some information on Malaysian marinas and anchorages:

Tioman Islands

You can perform entry and exit from Malaysia here. I came from Singapore and experienced no problems (as I was told by Singaporean sailors). Harbor Master, Immigration and Customs are in the same building (ferry terminal).

Tioman Islands has a small marina and berths for incoming sailboats are very limited due to the attractiveness of the place (cheap, lovely and easy to fly out (airport)).

Immigration

Whenever you sail from Tioman Islands, Malaysia west or Sabah to Sarawak, because of the special status of Sarawak in the Malaysian confederation (joined Malaysia in 1969 under British jurisdiction) you need to clear out with immigration from Malaysian west / Sabah. Same from Sarawak to Sabah and/or Malaysia west, you need to clear out of immigration from Sarawak.

Santubong

To enter the river go close to the starboard mark and follow the alignment’s marks. There is an anchorage (no berthing) at the mouth of the Santubong River, 01°43.050N and 110°19.600E, with access to a private marina where you can leave your dinghy and get water, fuel and laundry services.

There is a good seafood restaurant (closed Tuesday). Buses are available from the main road to Kuching (40 minutes). In Santubong (1km) there is limited food available. The place is quiet and safe.

Kuching (April 2010)

Water available, no electricity and free berthing. The marina, despite being close to the city (5km), is in a remote area with difficulties to get out = find a taxi.

Bintulu

Anchor in the Bintulu river. Just upstream of the Police (Polis) and Custom (Kastam) boats is a good spot. 03°10′.150 N and 113°02’300 E . Very good holding and no swell. The opposite is the city and next to the fishing boat there is a fruit and vegetable market. I left my dinghy next to it with no problem.

There are plenty of stores and restaurants.

Miri

There is a Shell station up the river (1NM). From 04°24′.400N and 113°59′.500E, you will see the Shell station and the people will wait as you approach the embankment.
