Latest info. from Ushuaia

Our thanks to Henk Boersma from charter yacht Sarah W. Vorwerk, based in Argentina, for this latest update.
Just came back from customs and we have been given another fine/tax, totally amounting to approx. 40.000US$ over the last year. My first impression was that the hassle would only involve locally based operators, however, after today’s session, I am not so sure anymore. Their behaviour (TIA) is so erratic, that I cannot vouch for anything.
Across the table, and in speech I heard many rumours that things are changing.
In short, anyone who is commercially active I would not recommend coming to Ushuaia.
This whole issue about Argentina/Falklands is also VERY complicated. ANYONE coming or going to the Falklands from an Argentine port should think twice if they want to bother with the hassle, be it with or without the local permission. Still, there would be enquiries, questions, and assumptions.
The good news is that finally, the old Club Nautico has come to life again. Rates are about a 10th of those at AFASyN, the club on the other side of the bay. At Club Nautico, a very friendly chap called Ceasar is doing his utmost to make you feel at home in “his Marina”.
