Importing A Boat Into Bahamas

Published 20 years ago, updated 6 years ago

Dear Noonsite,

We are planning to buy and bring a boat over from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau, Bahamas. Can you advise us where we have to go to register the boat in the Bahamas?

I assume you are a resident of The Bahamas and wish to import the boat for good, rather than being a non-Bahamian, wishing just to have your boat available here.

When you first import the vessel, you will have to pay Import Duty according to the appropriate rate for the size of boat. It is recommended to use the services of a Customs Broker to make sure this is done correctly. The boat will then have to be registered in The Bahamas, which is the responsibility of the Port Department, located at Prince George Wharf in Nassau.
