LOCATION: Guadeloupe (France) – Guadeloupe – Marina Bas du Fort
EVENT: Theft
HAND: 1
STOLEN ITEMS: cash, credit cards, personal electronics/phones, camera, personal documents, backpacks, snorkeling gear, clothing and a dinghy fuel tank with 20L of gasoline
SECURED: Not locked.
DETAILS:
Three charter catamarans were boarded between 0200-0300 HRS while docked on their first night at the Marina Bas du Fort where the charters originated. Locked gates, surveillance cameras and a guard were not sufficient to deter the thieves who stole many items from the yachts’ salons and from a dinghy.
Stolen were cash, personal electronics/phones, camera, personal documents, backpacks, snorkeling gear, clothing and a dinghy fuel tank with 20L of gasoline. The victims awoke and began yelling as the thieves departed by land. Detailed reports were made to the police, port captain, charter company and the marina office, but the surveillance video was not immediately made available to the investigation, and there seemed little interest/support from the marina and charter company. No progress had been made when the victims returned a week later at the end of their charter.
