Good Services In Port Salalah

Published 18 years ago, updated 6 years ago

We just want to say that we have just spent a week in Salalah and used the services of Mohammed Saad. He rented us a car at competitive rates and helped us greatly in obtaining fuel at no charge. At all times he was friendly, a real ambassador for his country and always so willing to help us in any way at all. He has a great sense of humour and we never felt as if he was trying to rip us off.

Many other boats in Salalah at the same time as us, Late February 2007, used Mohammed and we never heard of anyone unhappy with his service.

We have just visited Salalah and found Mohammod Saad to be excellent. He provided us with good services and advice and charged us nothing. We highly recommend him as do the many yachts who recently visited there.

Sailing from the Maldives islands to Aden we developed steering problem and fuel shortage. So we headed for the nearest port which was Salalah port in Oman. We contacted the port authorities who then gave us the contact details of Mr Mohammed Saad who is the main agent for sailing yachts visiting Salalah. From day one Mr Mohammed Saad and his assistant Ms Christine proved to be invaluable. They waited for us before we even dropped anchor. They organised so that customs/immigration visited the boat within half an hour. They then picked us up and drove all the crew to customs house to complete formalities.

In no time they organised for engineers to come and repair our hydraulic steering. We needed permission to moor next to a tag boat which belongs to the engineering company. Mr Mohammad had to apply for this permission on a daily basis and he did it promptly saving us any fines from the harbour master.

When the engineers needed a specialist hydraulics engineer Mr Mohammad went out and brought in the correct person. Our steering was complete. The engineers brought their bill. US$ 492.00. Mr Mohammed took it and gave it back. After 20 minutes negotiation, he reduced that bill to US$ 292.00.

We needed 1750 litres fuel and the same in water. Ordinarily, we have to bring it by the port gate and then carry the jerry cans by hand over a mile! Mr Mohammed swiftly obtained permission form the harbourmaster for a truck to come alongside and bring us the fuel. Again he negotiated a price only little less than the outside price which is duty-free. (If you get fuel inside the port for visiting boats there is duty to pay).

Whatever we needed Mohammed and Christine were there with us. We did not rent a car but we had Christine and Mohammed drive us anywhere anytime! Supermarkets, parts, special actuators for generator. When my son got food poisoning late at night Mohammed was driving us to the clinic, organised a one hour blood test, and medicine.

I witnessed Mohammed negotiating gas and tubes for another boat reducing the price from 24 Omani rial to 17 Omani rial. He then called and obtained permission from the boat owners to go ahead and buy the gas and tubes. Mohammed Saad purchased the gas and other equipment, four jerry cans of fuel, transported them to the port. Then brought my dinghy and carried all to the boat. I am sad to say that that boat when it came to paying, that boat owner tried to question the charges. This I find very unethical and a disgrace to all mariners.

I have never received such quality service and attention, at such low-cost charges from another agent in other countries like the service I received from Mohammed Saad. Mr Mohammed Saad is well known by the establishment, police, immigration, harbour master, security. This goes a long way when you need things done urgently and efficiently.

He has a great love of his country and was proud to show us around and meet with the people.

I will strongly recommend Mr Mohammed Saad to any mariner visiting port Salalah in Oman. The best service I received so far from any agent at a very not just reasonable but low cost. Ridiculously low!

Hi Kristianne. It appears that Mohammad is no longer an agent – although he does still work in the port. The latest information we have about Salalah is that an agent must be used to enter the port, or entry will be denied. You can see our latest Salalah information here – https://www.noonsite.com/place/oman/port-salalah-mina-raysut/. This is the only agent we know about – https://www.noonsite.com/business/al-sahool-agency/.
