Good experience at Casa do Campo Marina

Published 18 years ago, updated 6 years ago

In the recent past you have proved very helpful and in return, I wanted to provide an update for your readers.

I own a 49 foot Hallberg Rassy ketch that we are sailing to Thailand. On our way, we decided to sail from St. Martin to Panama via Santa Domingo. I had visited Casa de Campo in 1985 and found it to be an enjoyable place and so I was disappointed when all my software charts omitted any reference to Casa de Campo. I emailed Franco, marinacdc@verizon.net.do and he returned two emails in English outlining what I needed to know.

The facility here is state of the art with many shops, golf, and an interesting historical city. I don’t speak Spanish and have no problem. Today a crew member is participating in a regatta sponsored by el President, Beer. Franco has been distressed that no software programs nor charting companies have updated the information to include this great facility. No, he doesn´t have a gun to my head, but I wanted to repay the many kindnesses extended to me. They even sent out a dinghy to escort me to the dock. Customs and immigration come to the boat and the process is painless. I am staying at a dock because I was concerned about security. I am paying $55 per night plus taxes for about $62 per night.

WOW at that rate 5 years ago..no wonder nobody stops there. Clearwater Fl. 2015 an I don’t pay that much for one night. Eventually, they will notice. That’s what happens in Puerto Rico.
