Fiji: Difficulties Encountered Changing Money when Leaving the Country
The requirement to be able to produce certain documents which the Fiji bank needs before allowing you to change your Fiji dollars into another currency when leaving the country.

One issue that needs to be known about… is the Fiji Reserve Bank rules on buying foreign currency in Fiji do not recognise a non-commercial carrier as a valid means of leaving Fiji for another country.
We have had a problem (today) converting our remaining Fiji Dollars into Vatus (Vanuatu) or Australian Dollars due to the foreign exchanges & banks requiring a copy of an airline ticket/officially booked itinerary, in addition to a passport, to change currency.
Apparently, every individual request is a special case that must be referred to the Fiji Reserve Bank for consideration with your available paperwork. Of course, once you have your clearance paperwork and immigration have stamped you out, the rules say you are required to immediately leave Fiji. As it were, without by-passing go or collecting money from the bank.
Also if you do want Vatus… all Vatus received by banks are rapidly sent to Nadi International Airport exchange outlets and you have to go there to get Vatus.
