Emergency Stop in San Cristobal
Published 15 years ago, updated 6 years ago
An emergency in the family of my crew forced me to make an unplanned stop in San Cristobal, Galapagos, so he could fly out.
We found a Wi-Fi hotspot accessible from the boat (better than normal antennae) so pulled up the latest info. on noonsite for the Galapagos. After reading it, I decided to try to clear myself in with the port captain for an emergency 24 hour stop.
They did not blink an eye, charged me no fees, and gave me a certificate noting that my crew had departed from Cristobal. I did have to pay $30 at Immigration for the two of us but did not have to pay any agent fees, so the info. on noonsite is correct.
As well, while in the post office, I met the Yacht Agent Bolivar (Naugala). He provided us with advice while waiting on airline flights, took us up to immigration and processed the paperwork there for me and dropped us at the airline office so my crew could book his flight out, all at no charge.
From what I have read on noonsite and at the SSCA website, he has a good reputation as an agent, and I would certainly recommend him if staying more than 24 hours after our experience.
Just thought I would pass that on.
