This year we have enjoyed a cultural tour of the Caribbean between Key West and Puerto Rico. Our cruising stops have included marinas in Cuba, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic – where we cruised for 3 weeks.

We stopped at Isla Beata, Marina ZarPar, the Cumayasa River, and Casa De Campo, as well as Saona.

Marina Zarpar and Casa de Campo are great locations to enjoy Dominican hospitality. We spent time at a mooring ball at Zarpar and were very close to easy transport into the Historical center of Santo Domingo. The marina’s services include transport into Boca Chica, where there are markets and restaurants. Also, Andres is within walking distance with typical food supplies, vegetables, fruit stands, and motor parts. We were able to find the fanbelts and filters we needed quite easily, as well as a minor sail repair. Also at Zarpar, there is an onsite restaurant with excellent food and service.

At Casa de Campo, the rates are reasonable, also, and it is a friendly place to wait for a weather window before sailing to Puerto Rico or down to Bonaire/Curacao.

A tour of the Dominican Republic, as outlined in the guide we downloaded from your site, has really given us new knowledge of an island too many people sail by. They don’t know what they are missing!
