Dominican Republic, Luperon: Break-in and Burglary – December 2011
Published 13 years ago, updated 5 years ago
Our sailboat was broken into December 17, 2011, between 1900 and 2300. We were anchored at the entrance of Love Canal in Luperon, Dominican Republic.
We were ashore at a Christmas party. There were a lot of boats anchored nearby. No one heard the break-in. The companionway hatch was smashed and the navigation computer (a Toshiba laptop) was taken. The cockpit light was on and the boat was locked.
During the last three months, there have been 4 other break-ins. S/V Illusions – a Yamaha outboard motor, S/V Another Way – a laptop computer, S/V Irish Whisper – electronics and S/V Mellow Moon – broken hatch but no entry gained, probably scared away. The S/V Mellow Moon incident took place New Year’s Eve.
We reported the incident to the commandant and the tourist police.
