Curaçao: Spanish Water Updates
Published 9 years ago, updated 6 years ago
Here a few updates on Spanish Water (fishing harbor) and Curaçao:
Anchor Permits:
Apart from Spanish Water – where you get a 3-month anchor permit for 10$ – you can only get 3-day anchor permits for the other anchorages. You have to go to the harbor master each time or make a plan on which dates you want to visit the other anchorages. For each anchor permit, you pay 10$.
We enjoyed the anchorages at Santa Cruz the most (nice snorkeling).
Buses to the city and shuttle to the shopping center:
There is a shuttle to the Vreugdenhill Spar shopping center leaving on weekdays at 8:30 am from the fishing harbor.
There is one food supermarket within walking distance at the Jan Thiel beach (you can find fresh veggies, meat etc.)
There are hardly any small buses passing the roundabout at the fishing harbor (restaurant “Pirate Nest”), so it’s easier to catch the official bus. This runs from Punda (bus station in the city center) to Caracasbaai (Jan Thirl beach). It takes the bus about 30-40 minutes to arrive at the roundabout at the fishing harbor.
The bus leaves Punda at:
Weekdays: 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 14:30, 16:00, 17:00, 18:15, 19:30, 22:00
On Sundays or public holidays: 9:45, 12:45, 15:30, 18:30, 22:00
Normally the buses run on time.
Water:
You can take water at either the Curacao Yacht Club or from the water boat, prices are the same (7$ per 100 liters).
The water boat has to be contacted on Wednesday morning on the radio net at 07:45 on channel 72 and will come by some time during the day. It has a capacity of ~2000liters.
Water quality is good, although we found the water from the Curacao Yacht Club tasted a bit better.
Conclusion:
Because of the limited possibilities of anchorages you are allowed to visit and the 3 day limit on anchoring in each place, Curaçao is not a cruiser-friendly place.

A couple of Notes from June 2017 –
Bus: The bus route is called “6A Caracasbaai” – And the busses and routes can be found @ http://autobusbedrijf.org/konvoi-riba-ruta-i-tempu-di-espera/?lang=en&busline=30
Propane/LPG: Propane Paul seemed to be off island for a bit, the Curoil gas station in Santa Rosa used to fill up American style bottles, but the machine has been broken for a year, however, the station in Muizenberg is able to fill them up as BBQ tanks. https://goo.gl/maps/7s5w3bc4th12

How did you find the contact details of this company? I live here all my life and there is no company named that.
Who gave you these contact details and who helped you out?
A couple of months prior to our arrival in Curacao, we decided to add another solar panel and controller in order to extend our electrical system.
While looking at the Victron website for local dealers (our controllers are Victron), we contacted MARI CARIBBEAN, which is based in Spanish Water.
Initial contacts were very good, so we made a prepayment for the equipment we ordered (2 months in advance…).
Unfortunately, we never saw our equipment (paid 2 months in advance), the only thing we got were lame excuses after questions where our equipment was…
Finally, we left Curacao without solar panel nor controller (and without the money)
Our advice: Do not conduct any business with MARI CARIBBEAN, they are completely unreliable (and surely do not make any pre-payment – as we were stupid to do so…)!
