The first part of this cruising guide covers the NE coast from Parabia State to Bahia State and the 2nd part the North coast from Parabia to Maranhao State. The remainder of the country is covered by a third section which will be released in 2015.
It is the result of many years of research and many visits to the country to check and update the comprehensive information included in this welcome new Cruising Guide.
It really is a wonderful cruising guide – so clear and well laid-out. The first few chapters cover the basic information about the country, weather, language, general cruising conditions, and formalities. It then moves on to the more detailed data about various ports as well as some anchorages. There are great panoramic photos of the approaches to various ports with clear added text pointers showing what you are looking at, and similar added text to various ariel photos. The charts are clear and well illustrated too and are combined with Google Earth views of the land. The text on each port/anchorage is consistent, with GPS positions, waypoints, details of the approaches and what to look out for. Plus information on local facilities, services, transport, crime etc.
I would recommend this as the essential guide to have if you are cruising any part of the Brazilian coast. The fact that it can be loaded onto your laptop, iPad or tablet is a great bonus. Although it is available for a Kindle unless it is a Kindle Fire (i.e. able to produce color) I am not sure it would be so suitable, as it would be too small and with no color, would definitely reduce its usefulness.

The Background to the publisher: The Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation
The Royal Cruising Club was founded in 1880 by Sir Arthur Underhill and a coterie of friends to encourage and facilitate cruising in small yachts. Members, then as now, contributed to the enjoyment and safety of others by writing accounts of their cruises for the Club Journal (Roving Commissions) and publishing coastal guides. Many familiar sailing names have been RCC members: Claud Worth, Erskine Childers, Bill Tilman, Miles, and Beryl Smeeton, and that other remarkable couple Eric and Susan Hiscock, whose lifetime of voyaging inspired countless long-distance sailors. And today members of the RCC can be found in their yachts in unusual and adventurous places around the world. If you would like to read of their exploits and their cruises, they can be found in the annual Roving Commissions which is available for sale on the Club’s website www.rcc.org.uk.
The RCC’s ethos of producing and sharing Pilotage information led to founding the charity, the RCC Pilotage Foundation, whose aim is to provide pilotage and passage planning information for cruising areas around the world, and who publish nautical books and downloads about ocean sailing, coastal ports, and anchorages. RCC members are often contributing authors. The RCC Pilotage Foundation’s website is http://www.rccpf.org.uk/, where the pilots, already familiar to many, can be purchased or downloaded.
