Comments on Puerto La Cruz

We arrived in Porlamar on the Island of Margarita, Venezuela, on March 3rd, 2012. However, we only had the courage to stay anchored there for 2 nights. After that we got a bad gut feeling about spending another night at anchor, so we took off for Puerto La Cruz.
On the afternoon of March 8th, we arrived at Puerto La Cruz and looked for a spot in the Marina Redonda. As they saw us approaching, immediately a friendly Marina attendant came to assist us in a small yellow fiberglass boat and guided us to a safe spot. We tied stern-to the pier with the bow tied to 2 moorings.
In no time we were offered all the services (clearance formalities, Diesel, gas etc.). The Marina Redonda is excellent – very clean with a variety of services.
Yesterday we met Sr. Juan Guerrero, an older mechanic, well known and a very reliable individual. We needed an oil pressure sensor for our 4236 model Perkins engine and two fan belts. One hour later we had the two fan belts and the sensor. The prices were very reasonable. We met the manager called Carlos, he was very courteous and accommodating and we negotiated a price that I thought was very fair.
Venezuela is not easy. We were confused at first thinking, shall we go in or keep on going? So far I can say that I was glad we made this stop. Also – if you need any arrangements made for further travelling inland and outside the country you can look for Jose. He has an international travel agency that is well established and can help with all sorts of reservations and travel advice.
Enjoy it.
