Just spent 2 weeks in Cochin at Kondo Syokai Marine owned by John Crabtree.

There are no marinas in Cochin and this is a tiny “boatyard” across from the quarantine anchorage – about the only place you can get a berth. The dock is concrete with a few pilings so docking is a bit of a chore, and fender boards are a good idea. That being said, the spot is very calm and we had no problems.

John was extremely helpful prior to our arrival and very welcoming. He went out of his way to get us power (quite reasonable) and water (free!!!). The water is semi-portable from a well, but we didn’t drink it. You’ll need it to clean the boat, though. The dockage is a very good deal, especially if you’re coming from Phuket!!

The yard has a live-in watchman and is totally secure so it’s a great place to leave the boat while you explore India. Quiet as well and in the centre of the tourist area around the main harbour.

John’s email and phone number are posted elsewhere and he doesn’t monitor any VHF channels, but he was very responsive to our emails and was always reachable by phone once we arrived.

Based on what some of our friends have told us, we’re very happy we chose this place over Bolgatty.
