Circumnavigation from South Pacific/Brazil
Published 16 years ago, updated 5 years ago
I am researching for a cruise around the world leaving Brazil, through the Panama Canal, Torres Strait, Cape Town, Brazil. Any suggestions for known routes, timings, etc? I am reading Jimmy Cornell´s book and have questions about best way through the Pacific islands.
The route you mention is probably the most logical: from Brazil to the Caribbean, then through the Panama Canal, into the South Pacific… then via the South Indian Ocean to South Africa and on to Brazil. Ideally you should leave Brazil in December or January, transit the Panama Canal in February, sail from Galapagos to Marquesas in March, then spend the next 4-5 months cruising the South Pacific islands, go through Torres Strait in August, try to get to Mauritius by early October…and reach South Africa by early November (before the cyclone season starts in the South Indian Ocean). From there it’s all… downhill to home!
There are lots of details of this route in my World Cruising Routes (5th edition).

Jimmy Cornell
