Caribbean Colombia: Cruisers Own Guide

This past year I wrote a guide for the entire Caribbean Coast of Colombia that was published in 3 parts in the Caribbean Compass Oct-Dec 2011. I have since corrected, updated and posted it on the Cruisers_Network_Online website. I attach a copy in pdf format for noonsite readers:
Caribbean Colombia – A Cruising Guide
I also created a 2-page guide to Santa Marta that the Marina Santa Marta said they would hand out to visiting boats but never have. It is really pretty useful and a shame not to distribute the information I put together more widely.
Being now well into my second season cruising in Colombia, I am realizing how deeply indifferent the Colombian authorities and business interests are about serving the cruising community. So the more we are prepared to help ourselves, the nicer experiences we will have as cruisers. And the coastal Colombians are truly warm and welcoming people.

Diana at Santa Marta Marina did hand us a copy of the cruising guide for Santa Marta, referencing “Caribbean Colombia: Cruisers Own Guide” when we arrived at the marina last Saturday, Jan. 21st.
Diana has been most helpful for local knowledge and we are having Dino handle customs and immigration, etc, for us. Emails to Ken, at the marina, and Dino prior to our arrival were helpful.
Thanks to S/V Tashtego for compiling the guide which we have found most helpful.

The Department of Tourism has just produced a magnificent full colour’ Cruising Guide’ in English for both coasts of Colombia, which includes detailed official marine charts for all anchorages and valuable information including submissions from S/V Tashtego. It ranks up there with the best of Cruising guides.
