A personal view of the Gold Coast
Published 22 years ago, updated 6 years ago
We did not go down by boat, but friends drove us down to the Gold Coast and Southport last weekend. We did not like the area at all, high rise buildings and touristy shops are all it is. The anchorage at Southport is not attractive either, very crowded, speed boats and jet skis through the anchored boats causing a lot of rocking and rolling. And it wasn’t even a holiday weekend when we believe it is worse. To get to supermarkets is a very long walk or alternatively a long wet dinghy ride.
So we will remain in Brisbane River until it is time to move on again. Have so many places still to visit and like the atmosphere here. The river is tranquil compared to Southport. The Tuesday concerts have resumed again at the City Hall and last Tuesday listened to the Army Brass Band, excellent music. There are classical, opera, flamenco dancing and a South American group playing Spanish music coming up in the next few weeks.
