Description:

Jupiter and Jupiter Island is the northernmost city in Palm County, Florida, and one of the last cities in the Greater Miami Metropolitan Area while traveling north.

When traveling along the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), cruisers will rapidly notice a distinct change of scenery as the cities taper off and the shoreline becomes more natural. While it is possible to encounter wildlife and large marine mammals anywhere in Florida, many cruisers will begin to see more freshwater dolphins and manatee along the ICW.

Jupiter is a city that surrounds Jupiter Inlet. Be aware that Jupiter Inlet experiences continual shoaling. It is not recommended to enter Jupiter Inlet from seaward without updated local knowledge of any hazardous conditions in the area.

Jupiter Island is a narrow barrier island that begins at Jupiter Inlet and extends 16 miles up the coast to the St. Lucie Inlet. The St. Lucie Inlet is a relatively easy-to-navigate inlet. The charts in this area are notoriously inaccurate due to the constant maintenance of the buoys and shifting shoals: Mariners are cautioned to navigate to the physical channel markers and not rely on the chart except as a preliminary reference.

Position:
