Destin & Fort Walton - General Info

Description:

Fort Walton Beach (FWB) and Destin (and the surrounding neighborhoods) are situated around Chocktawhatchee Bay. The area is populated with vacationers and many hotels and vacation homes.

FWB and Destin are both far more touristically-oriented, and therefore they both have a pronounced slant toward fishing. However, the area is a frequent stop for Loopers as it is on the ICW. Many of the best marinas will not be found in FWB or Destin, but in the surrounding areas (such as Niceville).

Keep in mind that the Eglin Air Force Base is a military installation and there are exclusion zones that should be obeyed. All modern charts list these areas.

Position:

30° 22.76’N, 86° 30.52’W (entrance)

The pass is constantly being dredged and is subject to large wakes and confused seas. You must be close to the bridge before you turn East into the harbor. Note the bridge north of the harbor is only 50’.
