ALERT: The island nations of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada were the worst affected by Hurricane Beryl at the start of July 2024. The Grenadines were particularly hard hit.  Read this update from Doyles Guides on how the islands are recovering and what to expect if visiting this season (November 2024).

Where is Tobago Cays? Marine Park (TCMP)

The Tobago Cays Marine Park (TCMP) lies just to the east of Mayreau and this huge Horseshoe Reef protects these deserted islets.

The Cays have been declared a wildlife reserve by the government and all visitors are urged to preserve and protect this unique natural resource. No fishing, jet skis, or anchoring of dinghies allowed.

Significant damages to corals caused by the anchoring of yachts in and around the Petit Tabac area of Tobago Cays has resulted in the Tobago Cays Marine Park management placing a ban on ALL anchoring in that area.  A new nightly anchoring fee has also been imposed. See Docking for details.

For current rules, regulations and fees and a zone map on see the Tobago Cays Marine Park website.

Entrance Notes or Cautions for Tobago Cays Marine Park:

Security

This is a wonderful place to stargaze and enjoy the freedom of anchoring safely behind the huge Atlantic swell.  However, this idyllic spot has suffered from boardings, burglaries and armed assaults in the past.

Cruisers should remember that popular anchorages in the high season become secluded and isolated in “off-season” when few boats visit.

Cruisers are advised to anchor near other yachts and be more security conscious than they perhaps would otherwise have been. It is especially important to secure your boat at night, whether on board or not.

Position:

12° 37’12″N, 61° 20’22″W

Teal waters, swaying palms, and endless fun may cause impulsive sail plans! Tobago Cays. Put it on your bucket list.

One of our favorite locations in the Eastern Caribbean was the Grenadine’s Tobago Cays. Beautiful blue waters, superb snorkeling with a multitude of fish and turtles, sunsets and sunrises you never want to miss. It’s a sailors paradise. It CAN be kind of windy, so choose your mooring ball carefully! And avoid the charter boat highway in the middle of the islands. Read our blog and see pics and video here. https://bluedotvoyages.com/tobago-cays-paradise-found/

    Tobago Cays

Beautiful setting – very, very windy. Anchored in 3 meters between Petit Rameau and Petit Bateau. Great holding and hardly moved sideways at all – due to strong wind from same direction all night. Charged EC$10 per person Marine Park Charge. A lot of boat boys. Beach BBQ offers from EC$70 – EC$120.

We bought a fresh Tuna for EC$90 fed the four of us x 2 and we got good instructions on how to fillet. Snorkelling off the boat was fabulous – turtles, rays and colourful fish. Snorkelling over on Baradal disappointing, visibility was poor and didn’t see anything other than suffering white coral.

Beautiful place but quite windy and rocky on the water. Lots of dead coral on the beach. John helped us get a mooring buoy at $45EC per night + $10EC per person, to be paid to the Tobago Cays marine staff who come along each day.

We also gave John 10EC for securing us to the buoy, it was very windy!
John organised a Beach BBQ, he charged 100EC EACH, we should have negotiated! Drinks could be bought on the beach but were expensive so take your own.

All the BBQ’s are cooked by Big Mama, but you pay who you booked through. I’m sure if you turned up with no reservation then you would be able to get dinner.
There is nowhere for rubbish, so take it with you.
