ALERT: The island nations of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada were the worst affected by Hurricane Beryl at the start of July 2024. The Grenadines, Carriacou and Petit Martinique were particularly hard hit.  Read this update from Doyles Guides on how the islands are recovering and what to expect if visiting this season (November 2024).

Where is Britannia Bay, Lovell?

This small island, lying south of Bequia, is just five kms (three miles) long. It is wooded and hilly and has several spectacular white sandy beaches. It is a favourite holiday spot for the rich and famous.

While Mustique is still open to visiting yachts, the regulations now involve hefty mooring fees and often prevent visitors from wandering very far ashore.

The only mooring allowed is in Britannia Bay.

Information on the island can be found on the Mustique website.

Entrance Notes and Cautions for Britannia Bay:

The beacon on Montezuma reef is no longer there. It has been replaced by a small red and black buoy.

Visitors to the island are only allowed to use Britannia Bay.   The beach outside the Cotton House Hotel, Lagoon, Dolly and Macaroni beaches are off limits.  See this map from The Mustique Company for allowed locations for visitors.

Position:

12° 52.7’N, 61° 11.4’W.

    Data Entry3 says:

We stayed here for 3 nights prior to Christmas 2017. We called on VHF ch16 and the Mustique mooring man came out to meet us and we took buoy number 18 quite near the dinghy dock. Had to be taken by taxi to the airport to clear in, the taxi was $60 EC and $37.50 EC per person to clear in. Cash can be obtained from the airport by credit card.

There were restrictions from the 18th Dec to the beginning of Jan, but we could walk around the village and also go around the island in a taxi if we wanted.
Basil’s bar was closed for refurbishment and will be until mid-2018, but they had a pop-up bar (only sells drinks and no food).

There are a good but expensive supermarket and vegetable and fruit store. Fish market also which is good value. We love it here. Look out for Wednesday night, live bands at Basil’s.
