Ceuta - General Info
Description:
Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish enclaves on the north coast of Morocco, administered as city provinces of Spain. Also Spanish are the small islands of Alhucemas, Chafarinas and Penon de la Gomera. Ceuta and Melilla are important military bases.
Cruisers approaching this coast should be aware that there is an on-going problem with migrants attempting to cross the border from Morocco, many do so by swimming around controls into Ceuta. Duringn August 2024 approximately 700 people tried to breach the border daily. See news here.
Cruiser Highlights:
A good spot to explore Morocco if you can’t get into the Tanja Bay Marina in Tangier. Ceuta is filled with forts and historical landmarks. Statues of Hercules and his pillars are everywhere and the marina is even named the Hercules Marina.
Position:
35° 53.46’N, 05° 18.93’W (marina entrance)

May 2018: €42 per night for 12.5 x 4m monohull (med mooring with lazy lines). Diesel 0.995 EUR per litre – Gibraltar was £0.84 (0.95 EUR). Tricky fuel pontoon to dock at due to Guardia civil boats left fore and aft of it. Friendly and helpful staff. Facilities okay. Wifi was broken most of the time.
You’re docked right in the centre of town, there are no security gates, but no issues other than stray cats exploring the boat at night. Convenient access to the promenade, shopping road and Mercado municipal. Waterpark next to the marina.
Culturally Spanish, but Morrocan food and restaurants available.

Marina is ok but expensive at Euro 36 for a 13m yacht including electricity and water. Not a lot of places but secure. Diesel is Euro.0.98 a litre.
Shopping although supposedly duty-free, prices are no different than in Spain. Pretty little Town though.
Marina très chère et les prix sur leur site internet sont loin de la vérité. De plus, il vous est imposé de partir à midi pile ! ville sympathique mais les prix sont plus chers qu’en Espagne.
Translation into English:
Marina very expensive and prices on their website are far from the truth. In addition, you are forced to leave at noon! Nice city but the prices are more expensive than in Spain.
Safe small marina with helpful staff (all of whom we interacted with spoke some English). Laundry, water and electricity as needed, but wifi is so-so. Large supermarkets a short walk away. Historic buildings interesting. All in all a good stop-over.
A 48 hours stop late May 2015. Nice place, nice people, easy night access (you stop at the fuel pier just at the entrance of the marina). we paid one euro per liter of fuel. we paid 0.8 euros per square meter, ie 40 euros per night for our 12.5 * 4.1 ovni395.
Having visited the marina in January 2015, I’d like to back Julian’s report: this has become an expensive marina. We paid €24 per night for 9.50m. There are water taps on the pontoon, but no hoses. Few showers, but very hot water, although sometimes unreliable. Mooring is Mediterranean-style, although nothing prevents landing alongside the pontoon first.
Security is moderate: there is 24h surveillance but gates are open and the piece of rope across the entry to the visitor’s pontoon won’t keep out even the laziest of thieves. Cheap diesel is available here. Ceúta is a lovely place to visit, with many links to Morocco, but the prices make a longer stay less interesting.

We visited Marina Hercules in December 2014 for a short stay. The visitor’s area at the far eastern end of the marina was almost empty. We tried two berths on the north wall against the stone quay. In both of these births, the med mooring bowline was not anchored sufficiently far back to hold us off the wall. We had no such problems on mooring against the pontoon at the far end of the marina (immediately in front of you as you pass the fuel berth).
The marina was more expensive than we expected, charging us 39 EUR per night for a 13.5-meter boat. this includes water and electricity. We are told that it is only a few EUR more for their summer rate. The staff were helpful but spoke no English. We were able to visit Morocco easily by taxi having crossed the frontier.
