Description:

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle (La Cruz)  is a small fishing village located on the north side of Banderas Bay; a large horseshoe-shaped bay covering 500 square miles in area, on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. It has a large marina and an extensive anchoring area.

Cruiser Highlights:

La Cruz has a variety of cruising amenities including skilled craftsmen, good provisioning, chandleries and other supplies. There’s a range of restaurants, regular live music and a popular Sunday Market. There is also an active cruising community in this area with frequent meetups for Women Who Sail (WWS) the Pacific Puddle Jump (PPJ) and the La Cruz Kids Club. The region also has a wide range of cultural, historical and natural tourism options.

The Banderas Bay VHF net is at 08:30 Monday-Saturday on channel 22A.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

Following the impact of Hurricane Lidia in October 2023, cruising boats should be aware of debris in the water, missing navigation marks, hurricane damage to docks and limited berth availability.

Clearance- you must check in and out with the port captain directly even if you are staying at the marina. Also, the other marinas and anchorages in Banderas Bay are considered different ports, so you must check in and out when moving between them.

Docking- Dinghy dock fee is $40MXN/day
