Description:

Chios is a relatively high, barren, rocky island with only the NW coast having pine forests.

The largest village in the NW part of the island, Volissos, is claimed to be one of the possible birthplaces of the famous poet Homer.

The old town inside the Byzantine castle walls is a maze of narrow streets and churches with a restored hammam.

    While it is true that shelter is excellent in the unfinished “marina”, entering and leaving is not for the faint-hearted. The channel is very narrow, you are probably beam-on, and if you get it wrong, you are literally “on the rocks”.

    Beware! Despite that, we spent three very happy days there in 2017. Do go and hire a car when you get there.

    Limnia (Volissos port) Position 38°28.01’N, 25°55.15’E. New small marina is being in final stages of construction on the S/E quay of the port (immediately to the right of the entrance).

    Pedestals with electricity (free as of now) and water (need to call for opening). Mooring lines. depths around 2-3m along the quay.

    “Municipal Marina” daily fee this year for a boat up to 15 meters is 170 € /yr times length + Vat all divided by 365 days.

    Electricity is 0.30 cents per Kw and 3 € per ton, VAT included.
