Where is Home Island?

Home Island lies 1.5NM south of the Direction Island anchorage in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. It has a population of approximately 600.  When visiting the island, please respect the Malay culture and dress modestly.

Entrance Notes and Cautions for Home Island

It is advisable to follow the channel markers when moving from Direction Island to Home Island as there are numerous shallow areas and coral outcrops along the route.  The official anchorage for yachts is at Direction Island.

Cruiser Highlights for Home Island

Home Island has a small shopping precinct with oriental and western groceries, fishing gear, hardware and local products. When visiting, please dress with respect to the local culture with your shoulders and knees covered at all times. Home Island is a short 20-minute ferry ride away from West Island, with ferries running six days a week.

    Currently, no quarantine rubbish (i.e.anything not bought in Cocos) is permitted to be disposed of in any of the Cocos islands. Apparently, an incineration facility is planned for the future. Yachts are expected to take their rubbish away with them.
