Khao Kong - General Info
Where is Khao Kong?
Khao Kong lies a short distance south of the border with Thailand (not to be confused with the island of Kho Kong a few miles south of the town). This is a relatively undeveloped part of the country and the city previously had the reputation of being a ‘wild west’ type of town. The town and west mainland are joined by a bridge. Now, the province is an increasingly popular gateway to Cambodia from eastern Thailand. The border is at Cham Yeam, about 14 km from Khao Kong.
Entrance Notes and Cautions for Khao Kong:
Cruising yachts coming from Thailand can pick their way up the river at high tide or follow a fishing boat to anchor off the main town, just south of the bridge.
Cruiser Highlights for Khao Kong:
One of the biggest provinces in Cambodia with a long undeveloped coastline and a mountainous and forested interior which includes part of the Cardamom Mountains, one of the biggest rainforests in South Est Asia. To the south lies the Peam Krasaop wildlife sanctuary.
Position (south of the bridge):
11° 36.825’N 102° 58.606’E
