World Cruising Club: Summer Update

The build up to the World Cruising Club’s 2023 ARC season has begun with the first boats already arrived in Las Palmas Marina in the Canary Islands, positioning early for the November departures.

Another Busy ARC Season Ahead

Other boats are already heading south, enjoying a slow summer cruise around Spain and Portugal.  Boats should be across Biscay by the end of August and for the easiest passage should arrive in the Canary Islands by early October. This leaves plenty of time for final preparations, or to explore some of the other islands in the archipelago just when the weather further north is turning chilly.

Both routes, ARC+ Cape Verde and the classic ARC (Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia), are fully subscribed for 2023. However, as we receive withdrawals, we are giving places to boats on the wait list, so if you want to sail with us in 2023 and have not registered yet, do get in touch right away.

ARC Routes for 2024

The entry list for the November 2024 departures will open in early September 2023 and, once again, we expect demand for spaces on both routes to be high. Do make sure that you have registered your interest for 2024 via our website “tell me more” button, so that you will receive the 2024 information and registration link once the routes are open in September.

ARC Europe 2024

Entries are now open for the annual west to east Atlantic cruise with the next edition of ARC Europe taking place in May and June 2024.

The first leg of ARC Europe sets out from Simpson Bay in Sint Maarten and heads to a rendezvous in St. George’s, Bermuda, where we gather other boats routed from different Caribbean islands and the US east coast. The enlarged fleet then sets sail to Horta, Faial in the Azores, the ‘must-go’ transatlantic stopover.

While in the Azores, there is a group cruise through the archipelago calling at Terceira and Sao Miguel, with social and sightseeing opportunities on each island. The final leg of the rally will be to Lagos, Portugal, with an alternative supported cruising leg towards Northern Europe.

ARC Europe typically has in the region of 30 yachts with over 100 crews from many nationalities, making for a friendly atmosphere. The rally is six weeks of sailing in company and the route allows for crew changes as there are good international connections for both start and finish ports, plus Bermuda and several of the Azorean islands. Many boats choose to sail with a number of different crew to make the most of holiday allocations, and four is the average boat crew. Taking more crew than for Caribbean cruising is a good idea, as the Atlantic west-to-east sail is a tougher sail than the tradewinds route to Caribbean.
