The annual migration to the sun is well underway in the northern hemisphere as yachts head towards the Caribbean with World Cruising Club’s Atlantic rallies- the ARC and ARC+ to Saint Lucia, and new for this year ARC+ to St Vincent and the Grenadines. From the US east coast, ARC Caribbean 1500 sailed south during the early part of November making landfall in good time ahead of Thanksgiving. ALL ABOARD FOR WORLD ARC 2018
Wave upon wave of ARC boats are now sailing across the Atlantic with the 2018 edition of the rally. The option of a stopover in Cape Verde has proved so popular this year that an additional route was included, allowing more boats to call into Mindelo. The first wave of ARC+, as the two-stage route is known, will see boats finish in Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia, with the first arrival due this weekend. This year, the second wave will arrive into Blue Lagoon marina on St. Vincent, after their layover in Cape Verde and re-start last Sunday. And lastly, the final wave of boats in this year’s ARC set out from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 25 November and are sailing the rhumbline course straight to Saint Lucia.
The weather so far has been excellent, with all boats enjoying good passage speeds and sunshine, although the rock ‘n roll of the swell has surprised some folks! Forecasts show better winds to the south of the rhumbline, with consistent if moderate trade winds, meaning an enjoyable, but not record-breaking passage is expected.
Follow the fleet online
All boats are fitted with a YB Tracker for those at home to follow their progress online fleet viewer or YB Race app for iPhone and Android. Sharing their time at sea, crews are also sending blogs and photos to the ARC website. As the arrivals start to roll in follow the ARC Facebook page, Twitter and website for the latest Caribbean celebrations.
2019 Dates
ARC+ Cape Verde
