Using Mobiles in Greece

Thanks to SAILTAILS for passing this information on to Noonsite
We use a prepaid SIM card from Wind for mobile internet. Coverage is excellent, also quite far out at sea. SIM card costs 5 euro including 1 euro credit. There are three options for GPRS internet:
(1) 2 days unlimited use (maximum 1000 MB per day): 5 euro
(2) 7 days unlimited use: 15 euro
(3) 40 MB to be used within one month: 4 euro
We chose option 3. But be very careful with spending the data. Checking mail with winlink/sailmail only uses few kb’s. Web surfing can go through the data really quickly. It helps to switch off automatic image loading in the browser if possible.
Also be careful with virus scanners, windows update etc that like to download updates automatically. Before you know it all your data is gone and you will be charged at 10 euro/MB! Within minutes your balance will reach -5 euro. Yes, they also allow you to make debts! And you will have to pay it back to them if you want to use your SIM again.
All SMS’s from Wind are in Greek. Customer service, fortunately, speaks reasonable English.
Phone number 1260, 0.12 euro per call.
