Joan has now been able to contact the Coast Guard office and was told that there is no delay in processing the paperwork. We have no answer as to why the website shows that there is one.

According to the Coast Guard website, there is now a significant backlog in the issuing of documents for US recreational vessels. This applies to both the initial documents as well as renewals.

As many harbors in the US require to see these documents, the current 5-month delay could cause many boaters some difficulties. Having copies of the forms submitted and any evidence of the date on which this was done, might well be helpful.

See www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/nvdc/nvdcprocessdate.asp for the latest situation. [BROKENLINK]

Our thanks to Joan Palango of SY Panchita for bringing this to the attention of Noonsite.
