The development of Port Takola started in 2009. The marina is built on 27 acres of redundant prawn farm ponds, that are part of a private estate owned by the na Nagara’s family. The father and son team, Surgeon Admiral Suriya (RTN) and Matthew na Nagara, have worked together since the beginning to make this marina project happen.
Matthew explains; “Port Takola’s Phase One is a small, but exciting, beginning for our family and team. After 7 years of development, Port Takola will finally start servicing boat owners. We believe that our marina offers a sheltered and advantageous location for berthing in this part of Thailand.”
The marina basin has a depth of 3 meters below LAT and it is protected from storms and swells. Port Takola is close to a major tourist destination, Krabi town, and the international airport. Ao Nang has many amenities and entertainment to offer. Krabi town is only across the Jilad River from the marina and can be accessed by boat in 5 minutes. Krabi International Airport is less than 40 minutes’ drive. Qatar Airways has just commenced its direct flight from Doha to Krabi, so it is becoming more convenient for a boat owner to travel from Europe and America. There are also direct flights from Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.
Port Takola Phase One will consist of 50 stern-to wet berths connected to a 4-meter wide concrete pontoon system built by Marinetek. The marina will also introduce 20 moorings inside its basin to give boat owner and affordable berthing option.
The boatyard will feature a 10,000 m2 area for about 50 dry berths and for technical repairs. It will be serviced by a Roodberg submersible hydraulic trailer with a maximum lifting capacity of 38 tons and 2.5 meters maximum draft. The slipway has a total of 12 meters width to accommodate larger catamarans, numbers of which are growing in Thailand.
Mr. Sebastien Caveriviere, a previous service manager of Simpson Marine Thailand, has been commissioned to manage the marina operation. Sebastien was a captain in the Mediterranean and also a manager of Dream Yacht Charter Malaysia and Thailand. Matthew says “Sebastien has both technical knowledge and extensive experience in yachting. Port Takola Phase One is a small beginning, but we aim to provide a professional service from the start. We are pleased that Sebastien joins our team as his knowledge, skills, and expertise will help our team to provide a quality service to the boat owner. Sebastian also speaks French, English, German, Malaysian, and Thai. This will also help boat owners to communicate with us more easily.”
Port Takola flooded its marina basin in January (see photo) and are now in the process of completing pontoon and mooring installations. Currently, yachts now have a place to tie up using their own anchor and there is a nearby restaurant that caters for meals and drinks. Water taxis run across to Krabi town which is just a short distance away. Onshore facilities will continue to be developed.
To commemorate the marina opening, they are offering a 50% opening discount for berthing.
