UPDATE ON CURRENT IMMIGRATION/VISA FEES IN PANAMA

Posted 9 May 2012

The Immigration Officer at Shelter Bay Marina is telling yachts that they now do not have to go to Colon for visa and that the entry into the country stamp in the passport is sufficient. The situation is still not crystal clear and there is the talk of a suspension, pending clarification by the Immigration Head Office in Panama City. However, for now, no visa requirements are being enforced by Immigration in Cristobal/Colon (and in most other ports in Panama they have never been enforced).

Both Shelter Bay Marina and Bocas Yacht Club and Marina report that the Panama Government has changed its mind regarding the crew visa charges of $110.00 per person and will no longer be requiring these charges.

Shelter Bay Marina report that “the current charges are not clear, we are maneuvering for “zero”, but who knows how it will finally break out”.

Bocas Yacht Club told noonsite, “Since the implementation of the new visa charge of $110.00 per person for persons entering the country by boat, Bocas Yacht Club and Marina along with Shelter Bay Marina have been voicing our concerns with the Government regarding the negative impact on yacht tourism this new law would have.

“It seems that again the Government here in Panama has listened and responded in a positive manner to the feedback and protests regarding the negative impact on yacht tourism here in Panama”.
