We are dedicated to continuing to bring you information that will inspire and facilitate your cruising plans, but want to remind you how you can get involved and support Noonsite too.

Rightfully, containing the spread of the virus and protecting those vulnerable has seen countries lock down and safeguard their populations. Keeping safe and healthy is paramount and our thoughts are with all those who may have been personally affected by the pandemic.
At Noonsite, we have been working hard to provide as much support as possible to our community as we all navigate these unprecedented circumstances and an uncertain future for sailors.
We are particularly grateful to everyone who has been providing reports from locations across the globe sharing great insight into how restrictions were quickly being implemented and enforced. This feedback from ports of entry has been invaluable as we chart border closures and openings.
We do not know when the world will return to the cruising ground we previously enjoyed, and the long-term effects on leisure tourism by air and sea look to be with us for some time to come. We will however continue providing detailed information for our users to help them plan for cruising safely and knowledgably.
Noonsite is free for users with the site running costs supported by revenue from limited advertising. This comes primarily from marine businesses, many of whom are facing an enormous challenge of staying afloat in these troubled times themselves.
As many are finding in the current circumstances, the continued revenue towards the running of the site, a monthly bill that is covered by World Cruising Club, is uncertain whilst our overheads of hosting and maintaining the site remain.

Please correct the spelling for the Western Australian town of Fremantle (not Freemantle).
Please also separate the towns of Perth and Fremantle – that’s like saying San Jose’ and San Diego.
Perth and Fremantle are very different towns with a very different flavour.
Interestingly, the spelling Freemantle, whilst incorrect, has variously been used in the past.
Also, which may come as a surprise to many from more populous nations, both Perth and Fremantle are cities not towns. And yes, they are “separate”, but Fremantle is a part of the Perth metropolitan area, which now extends many kilometres south of Fremantle.

Hi – unless you fill in the add anchorage box the red marker won’t become an anchorage. I see you have added a brief note about why you visited this anchorage but nothing about the anchorage. Can you add some details about protection, what’s there, state of the bottom etc. so that others will know why you recommended it? Thanks so much. We are planning this summer to sail to Canary Islands. From the Netherlands is this still allowed? Sailing by way English Channel? South?
Hi, thanks for your question. The whole world is in the middle of a health crisis and borders/ports/marinas are shut worldwide. Yes, slowly but surely, some facilities/borders are starting to tentatively open, however not for tourism/cruising yet. They are opening to help boats that are in transit or needing repairs or in an emergency. A great many places have strict restrictions for foreign boats that enter, including testing, quarantine and increased paperwork/advance warning. Once in the country all visitors must follow the same restrictions in place for the local population, which for many still this is “stay at home”. Please review our Atlantic ports document to get an idea of where is open (https://www.noonsite.com/report/crossing-the-atlantic-to-europe-where-can-i-stop/) and follow the links to the country biosecurity sections to find out what conditions are like in that country and what restrictions are in place. The risk you take venturing out cruising from your home country at the current time, is if a second wave of Covid-19 hits in the late summer/Autumn and borders start to close again. This is quite possible and our advice would be to practice caution. Currently, Canaries ports will remain closed until at least the end of the State of Emergency that is enforced until 25 May. After this time a phased opening will likely begin, however when the borders become fully operational and moving between islands is permitted is still unknown.
