The SCCA established the Growltiger Clean Wake Award to recognize voyaging cruisers, whether members or not, who exemplify by their behavior one of the main principles of SSCA: to leave a clean wake and to show respect for others and for our environment so that those who follow in our wake will be warmly welcomed.

Award recipients are those who show generosity and offer assistance to others, especially to people who live in the countries they are visiting, and/or those who involve themselves in activities of significant benefit to mankind and the environment.

Noonsite has been recognized with this award for its many years of providing international cruisers key country information for passages and particularly the efforts of Editor Sue Richards and her team during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Karen Nettles of the SCCA said; “With COVID-19, country by country has closed borders leaving vessels looking for safe haven. The team at Noonsite spent months, often seven days a week, helping provide critical information. We could not have gotten boats to safety without your efforts!”

The Noonsite team is very grateful for the recognition this award gives the website.

“We are delighted that Noonsite has been recognized by the SSCA and awarded this special trophy”, said Editor Sue Richards. “It’s particularly special for us as this year is Noonsite’s 20th Anniversary, so to be recognised now for the service we have given to the cruising community over the last two decades is truly wonderful.”

Sue continues, “This award also recognises Noonsite’s work during the Pandemic. However, it has truly been a joint effort over the last 9 months, working with the top cruising associations (including the SSCA), cruisers and marine businesses worldwide to garner all the real-time information needed to assist cruisers during this difficult period.

“This spirit of co-operation is what the cruising community is all about and will hopefully continue for a long time after the Pandemic is over.”
