NOAA Weather Service for Mariners: e-mail address change

NOAA is changing the email address for FTPmail to NWS.FTPMail.OPS@noaa.gov. This will impact a lot of cruisers who have automated e-mail requests. The new address is operational from September 7, 2016, and the old one will be deleted on October 6, 2016 – a month later.

This notice is being issued to advise all NWS partners of a change to the email address used for obtaining weather products via the NWS FTPMail service.

The NWS FTPMail was established primarily for mariners who have limited World Wide Web access but maintain the ability to interface with NWS through email services. The NWS FTPMail service allows users to request and receive weather products through a simple mail transfer protocol.

By using FTPmail, a user’s request is automatically sent as either an attachment or content of an email message on as needed.

Further information for the FTPMail service can be obtained from the following web site: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/tg/ftpmail_using.php

In an effort to improve service and efficiency, the NWS is completing a system upgrade of the FTPMail service.  As part of the upgrade, the email address used by our partners to request weather product(s) will be changed. The following email address will be operational on Wednesday, September 7, 2016.

New FTPMail Service Email Address: NWS.FTPMail.OPS@noaa.gov

The old email address, ftpmail@ftpmail.nws.noaa.gov. is planned for decommissioning on Thursday, October 6, 2016.  NWS recommends users begin transitioning to the new email address on September 7, 2016, to ensure continuing responses to FTPMail requests.

As a reminder, you must configure your email system to allow messages originating from NWS.FTPMail.OPS@noaa.gov to prevent accidental deletion.
