The Netherlands Standing Mast Routes are popular with both sailing and motor yachts, not only because they serve as a gateway to destinations like the Kiel Canal and the Baltic, but also because they can simply offer a new cruising experience.

Recognising the importance of keeping the cruising community informed with easy to find up-to-date advice on the routes and possible disruptions, the Cruising Association’s European Inland Waterways Section (EIWS) has launched a free guidance note on Sources of Information on the Netherlands Standing Mast Routes. This guidance note supplements the existing 48-page guide Through the Netherlands via the Standing Mast Routes.

Produced by EIWS member Machiel Lambooij, the Guidance Note details the numerous sources for obtaining up-to-date information. It includes where to find alerts on the status of locks and bridges along the routes, current water levels, permitted draught and air draught and known incidents affecting 2024 cruising. It also includes a list of the most common Q&As on the routes.

  • CEVNI rules
  • Amsterdam vignette for pleasure craft
  • Tips for cruising the French inland waterways
  • Inland Cruising Information for the Netherlands

All the guidance notes contain dozens of useful hyperlinks and/or QR codes to a wide range of further information sources on cruising in inland Europe. They can be downloaded free in PDF format at European Inland Waterways Section.

The free guidance notes complement the CA’s range of EIWS Cruising Guides which provide extensive advice and insights to navigating the intricate waterways of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the River Moselle/Mosel and the German Rhine. These can be purchased in either full-colour print or PDF (free to members) format from the CA’s online shop.
