Greece Streamlining Administrative Procedures for Yachts
Greece has launched a new digital system for handling the Transit Log of private foreign-flagged boats that enter Greece.
The move comes as part of a decision by the head of the Hellenic Republic’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue, which is aimed at streamlining administrative procedures for maritime operations and keeping tabs on yachts in Greece.
The requirements as to what boats need to get a Transit Log, have not changed – see Noonsite/Greece/Clearance for details – but instead of getting a Transit Log on arrival from Customs, yacht skippers can get it online through the new digital portal.
This system differentiates between vessels based on their flag and ownership status. For yachts in Greece flying a non-EU flag and owned by individuals based outside the EU, or those flying an EU flag but owned by non-EU residents, the log will have limited validity if customs and tax duties are unpaid. Conversely, for yachts with either a non-EU or EU flag owned by residents in the EU or elsewhere, the log will be valid indefinitely if all relevant duties are settled.
Under existing regulations, vessels with these specifications must file a “Transit Log” with the relevant Customs Office to navigate freely in Greek waters.
New System Should Ease Clearance Process
Michalis Roditis of Roditis Yachting Agency, Rhodes, told Noonsite; “We welcome this new online application system for the Transit Log (TL), which should – in time – ease the clearance process for skippers that need a TL.
“As the system has just been launched there are a few functionality glitches,” he said. “however, if skippers have problems they can still get a TL from Customs on arrival for now. I recommend that all yacht owners who have difficulties getting an unlimited TL (UTL) – even for yachts that are VAT paid – they should upload the relevant paperwork and try to get the UTL online.”
Digital Portal for Submissions
The submission process can now be completed in minutes via the myAADE digital portal. Users can access the service by going to Applications > Customs Services > Transit Log – Movement Log.
