Fiji: New Five Year Duty-Free Allowance for Yachts
Foreign yachts can now stay in Fiji for up to five years, without having to pay any duty.
Published 3 years ago
The Fijian Government have recently passed a new bill in parliament which permits foreign yachts a stay in Fiji for up to five years, without having to pay any duty. This is welcome news for all current AND new arrival vessels to Fiji and means cruisers can now base their yachts in Fiji for several seasons.
Originally tourist yachts were permitted a stay of up to 24 months in Fiji (18 months initial period + 6 months extension period). However, the new policy now permits up to 60 months (54 months initial period + 6 months extension period).
While there was some confusion about what would happen with yachts that are already in Fiji, currently stranded due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, this has now been resolved. Yachts that are already in Fiji and have exhausted their 24 month allowance can now apply for an additional 36 months.
This 36-month extension period is the calculated difference between the proposed maximum period of 60 months and the current maximum period of 24 months.
