Atlantic: Interpol BOLO for Yacht from Spain with Two Missing Girls

Interpol has issued a BOLO to all ports in the Caribbean, for a sailor from Spain who is wanted for allegedly kidnapping his two young children from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, according to a report from Boatwatch.org.

Tomas Antonio Gimeno Casanas (37 years old) disappeared with his two young children, Anna Zimmermann (one year old) and Olivia Zimmerman (six years old), on a sailboat of unknown name, from Santa Cruz Marina, Tenerife on April 27, 2021. He is believed to be headed to a Caribbean island.

Anyone with any information concerning this incident is asked to contact their nearest police authority or Coast Guard. Photographs of the father and two children are on the Boatwatch.org website.

Interpol has released a yellow alert for the man and a red alert for his daughters and authorities in Spain, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are on the lookout for the trio.

Gimeno was last seen at the local marina near Candelaria, Tenerife, where he is believed to have left in a motorboat at around half an hour past midnight.  The motorboat was later found abandoned at sea and is believed to have been a decoy.

Police believe Gimeno and the girls may be on board a 14m yacht, under UK flag, which spent two weeks in Gran Canaria and then left for Cabo Verde using the North Route.  It appears the boat was sailing around the Tenerife east coast the same evening the father and his children disappeared.

At this time, neither the boat’s name or AIS has been confirmed by police/media.

Tragically, it is being reported by the international press that the older daughter’s body was found on 10 June in a bag dumped in the sea off Tenerife. The search for the one-year old daughter is still on-going. Police are still looking for the father.
